SemiLiquid Introduces Programmable Credit Protocol

  • New project with Franklin Templeton, Zodia Custody, Avalanche, and CMS shows how to use credit safely with digital assets
New idea shown at Abu Dhabi Finance Week 2025 marks a big step forward for credit systems

SemiLiquid, a company that helps with managing credit, announced a new system called the Programmable Credit Protocol (PCP) at the Abu Dhabi Finance Week 2025. This system allows businesses to use credit with digital or tokenized assets without moving the assets. This is an important step for the future of digital markets. The technology was made in Abu Dhabi and will soon be used in other parts of the world, showing how Abu Dhabi is becoming a leader in digital assets and financial technology.

The project was tested with Franklin Templeton, Zodia Custody, Avalanche, Presto Labs, M11 Credit, Oasis Foundation, and CMS. During the test, Franklin Templeton used their tokenized money-market fund, BENJI, as a guarantee. The guarantee stayed locked while the loan was active, with rules and automatic checks in place. This test showed that businesses can still earn money from the assets while lenders can be sure their money is safe. There’s no risk between the parties, and no assets need to move.

“Programmable assets need programmable credit,” said Rico van der Veen, Co-Founder and CEO of SemiLiquid. “PCP is the tool that businesses need a simple, safe system that mixes the trust of traditional finance with the speed of new technology. This is not just an upgrade, it’s a new way of doing business. Abu Dhabi has helped us create this system in a safe environment for digital assets.”

"SemiLiquid’s PCP brings together leaders in the industry to solve problems in credit systems," said Anoosh Arevshatian, Chief Product Officer at Zodia Custody. "We hope to make custodial services a safe and trustworthy part of the process for larger credit systems."

“Programmable credit shows that businesses can lend money safely and quickly using custody, without losing control of the assets,” said Khalid Dannish, Head of MENA at Ava Labs. "Avalanche’s fast system, combined with SemiLiquid’s credit tool, shows that businesses can trust this new way of doing things in a region that’s becoming the place for new financial ideas."

“Private credit is becoming digital, and this test shows how it can be done legally and safely,” said Matthew Nyman, Digital Assets Lead at CMS. “CMS is proud to support the technology that brings this system to businesses.”

Even though tokenized assets are expected to be worth $10 trillion by 2030, the credit systems used by businesses have not kept up. Over 70% of financing still uses old paperwork and moving assets between accounts, which creates risk and slowdowns. This stops tokenized assets from being used as collateral in larger financial systems.

SemiLiquid’s test shows that the technology is ready, and businesses are prepared. The company is now moving on to Phase II, which will start in early 2026. This will add more custodians, types of assets, and countries. The new system will also let businesses lend with less collateral, using checks to prove they are financially healthy.

“Credit is the heart of capital markets,” said Rico van der Veen, Co-Founder and CEO of SemiLiquid. "With PCP, programmable credit is ready, and it’s ready to be used by businesses."
