BFX Tax in India: 30% Crypto Tax, 1% TDS, and ITR Guide

BFX Tax in India: 30% Crypto Tax, 1% TDS, and ITR Guide

How Much BFX Tax in India Applies to Gains Under the 2026 Rules?

BFX tax in India depends on what you do with the token, not on owning it.

Under the Income-tax Act, 2025, effective April 1, 2026, income from transferring a virtual digital asset (VDA) is charged at a flat 30%, and 1% TDS (tax deducted at source) may apply to the payment.

This guide explains when a BlockchainFX sale, swap, or claim creates a liability, shows a worked example, and lists the records you need for your ITR filing.

Always check the law that applies to your transaction date.

Is BFX Taxable in India When You Buy, Hold, Claim, or Sell Tokens?

Holding a token is not a taxable transfer. Buying it with rupees or stablecoins creates a cost of acquisition, and that figure matters later.

A charge usually arises when you transfer the asset, for example by selling it for INR or exchanging it for another coin.

A token claim is different from a sale. Receiving your allocation at launch moves tokens into your wallet, but the date and value of that receipt should still be noted because it can fix your cost.

Moving tokens between two wallets you own is a wallet movement, not a disposal. Read our BFX TGE and release explainer to see how claim, release, and listing dates differ.

Treat every case as fact-specific.

A blockchain transaction is not automatically taxable, and a taxable event does not always look like a sale.

How Much BFX Tax in India Applies to Gains Under the 2026 Rules?

BFX tax in India follows the flat rate for transferring a VDA.

Section 194 of the 2025 Act carries forward the earlier 30% regime, and the Income Tax Department VDA guide explains that income is computed without any deduction except acquisition cost, then charged at 30% plus surcharge and cess.

Two points surprise beginners.

  1. First, the 30% applies to your gain, meaning sale proceeds minus acquisition cost, not the full sale amount.
  2. Second, a crypto loss cannot be set off against other income, and the Department says a loss is reported as nil.

Ask a chartered accountant how the rule applies to your year, because the transaction date decides which provision governs.

Does 1% TDS Apply to Every BFX Sale or Uniswap Swap in India?

Not in the same way for every route. The earlier Section 194S rule now sits in Section 393(1), Table Sl. No. 8(vi), and the official Income-tax Act: Section 393 page shows the structure.

TDS is a deduction made by the payer. On an Indian exchange the platform usually handles it. In a peer-to-peer deal the buyer may carry the duty.

On a decentralized exchange there may be no deducting party at all, so the result depends on the payment route and the payer’s status.

Remember that TDS is a credit against your liability, not the final bill. Threshold exceptions and special cases, such as a missing PAN, can change the rate, so verify them for the relevant year.

BFX Tax Calculation: A Simple Buy-and-Sell Example With 1% TDS

This illustration is for learning only. Suppose you buy tokens for ₹50,000 and later sell them for ₹80,000.

  • Sale proceeds: ₹80,000
  • Cost of acquisition: ₹50,000
  • Gain: ₹30,000
  • 30% on the gain: ₹9,000, before surcharge and cess
  • 1% TDS on ₹80,000, if deducted: ₹800

The ₹800 is not an extra levy. It is credited against the ₹9,000 when you file, so you would pay the balance.

If the same sale produced a loss, no set-off against salary or business income would be allowed.

The example leaves out surcharge, cess, and fees, and it is not an individual assessment. Your figures depend on the exact date, price, and payer.

Can You Deduct Gas, Swap Fees, or Trading Charges From BFX Tax?

A common question is whether network gas, swap fees, or platform charges reduce the gain.

The Income Tax Department describes VDA income as computed without deducting any expense other than acquisition cost.

That points against subtracting gas, brokerage, or BlockchainFX trading fees from the result.

Do not assume a particular charge can be added to your cost either. Whether a fee forms part of cost depends on how the transaction is documented, so take professional advice before claiming it.

Keep every fee record anyway, because it shows the real value of each trade if an officer asks questions.

Are BFX-to-Crypto Swaps and Uniswap Transactions Taxable in India?

Exchanging the token for another coin needs careful review, because a crypto-to-crypto exchange can be a transfer of one VDA for another.

That differs from sending tokens to your own cold wallet, which usually changes the address but not the owner.

Uniswap trades add practical issues. The pool issues no contract note, the price depends on liquidity, and the payer for TDS purposes may be unclear.

Record the transaction hash, the time, the INR value of both assets, and the wallet address.

Our swap trading guide covers the steps, while this section covers reporting only. Facts such as a bridge or wrapped token can change the analysis.

Which Records Should BFX Holders Save Before Filing an ITR in India?

Good records make filing easier. Save these items for every transaction:

  • purchase date, quantity, and INR cost
  • claim or receipt date and value
  • sale or swap date, proceeds, and platform
  • wallet transaction history and hashes
  • exchange statements and TDS certificates
  • gas and fee receipts

Use your token selling guide alongside a spreadsheet so each sale lines up with its cost.

Check the correct return form and the VDA schedule for your year before filing, because instructions can change under the new Act.

Matching your TDS credit with your annual statement avoids mismatches.

How to Keep BFX Wallet Records Safe and Verified Before You File

Records only help if the data is real. Download statements from official sources, export history from a verified block explorer, and confirm the contract address before relying on a balance.

The wallet security guide article explains how to avoid fake tokens and phishing links that can corrupt your history.

In short, BFX tax in India comes down to four things: what counts as a transfer, the 30% rate on gain, TDS as a credit, and clean records.

Speak to a qualified chartered accountant before filing.
